We arrived in the rain, heavy raindrops falling down on our umbrellas. Just a moment later the dark clouds disappeared and now clear blue sky spreads above.

The vineyard around the river Ahr is one of the smallest wine-growing areas in Germany. Already during Roman times the first vines were cultivated here. 82% of what grows on the steep slopes of those hills is red wine.

Before the wine can be harvest there is a lot of work which is done by hand. The steep ground makes it tough for the winegrowers to take care of their vines.
