This drinking water dam is the second largest out of 311 dams in Germany. 42 million m³ are extracted every year to provide 500.000 people from 10 cities and villages relying on it.

The conservation of the lakes water needs to be guaranteed. The surrounding forest of 7.6 km² helps with the protection. Swimming or other activities are not allowed. Many popular hiking trails lead through the forest but the water remains untouched.
